Nipol ® NBR Elastomers

Cold Elastomers

The present generation of Nipol NBR elastomers spans a wide variety of compositions. Acrylonitrile contents range from 19% to 51% of actual polymer content and Mooney values range from a very tough 100 to pourable liquids. A Mooney Viscosity of twenty two is the lowest practical limit for our solid material. Within the normal polymerization temperature range used for making cold Nipol NBR, the lower temperature yield more linear linear polymer chains. Cold Nipol NBRs can present the compounder with significant processing benefits, because linear polymer chains are less viscous and can therefore disentangle themselves more easily than highly branched hot varieties. This increased mobility requires much less force to process the stock. The results are lower process temperatures and lower power consumption. The linearity also contributes to the cold Nipol NBR easily incorporating fillers and plasticizer and is a benefit for transfer and injection molding and highly filled extrusions.
